Top 10 Diseases That Affect Women In 2018


Women are of great importance in the world, and their health concerns should be, not just theirs to worry but ours too. You see, when it comes to health, men and women are never the same. Women have a lot more health risks.

Today is the international women's day!, that's why, today all healthy women in the world will learn about the top 10 diseases that affect women in 2018.

Now, why should you learn about the top 10 diseases? There's a popular quote that says:

"It is more important to know what sort of person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has." – Hippocrates.

What does this mean? To achieve a healthy life, it is very important to know the groups of individuals that are more likely to develop certain diseases and also knowledge of that disease, then you take the necessary measures to reduce your risk.

These diseases are based on their popularity and epidemiology. I'll give explanation of them all.

10. Depression
Depression is a mental illness that gravely affect your social life. Women are more likely to be depressed than men. Women are not just more prone to depression than men, but the causes and pattern of their depression symptoms are usually different. The reason is because of some factors, such as changes im reproductive hormones to social pressures  to stress. 

If you are able to know about this factors, you can effectively deal with depression.
Women who are depressed have loss of interest in activities they normally enjoy, feelings of guilt, hopelessness and insomnia. Each year 12 million women suffer from depression and this number keeps rising. It was predicted that by 2020, depression will be the leading cause of death in the world.
To reduce your risk of depression, you should sleep more, exercise more and engage in more social activities with loved ones. It is also important to seek for medical assistance.



9. Pneumonia
Pneumonia is an infection in the lungs. It is caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses. This is a very terrible disease that causes the lungs to solidify leading to chest pain, difficulty in breathing and poor circulation of oxygen through the body. A common disease associated with it, is influenza. The both of them accounts for 3 percent of female deaths in the United States.

Pneumococcal vaccines are the best treatment for pneumonia and influenza.




8. HIV/AIDS
HIV is a common disease that affects women. For many years we have battled HIV, but yet people keep getting infected. It is a global concern for every woman as it kills millions of women each year. Of the 34 million people living with HIV in the world, 50 percent are women.
One reason why HIV is still common among women is due to the fact that too many young women still struggle to protect themselves against transmitted infections and because of social factors, domestic violence and sexual abuse.
The best way to prevent the risk of getting HIV is prevention.



7. Maternal hemorrhage
Maternam or Obstetrical hemorrhage is defined as excessive bleeding that occurs during labor. The bleeding can occur internally or externally. It is more dangerous when it happens internally. Bleeding can equally occur at different stages of the labor and pregnancy.

This is the leading cause of maternal mortality. Although the rate is low in developed countries, it is massive in developing countries. The most common causes of the hemorrhage is uterine atony, retained placenta, lacerations of the uterus, cervix, or and inability to clot.
It is responsible for 6 percent of female deaths in Africa.

In managing maternal hemorrhage, alot depends on the medical professionals involved in during the labor period. You on the other hand can take a lot of blood boosting foods that will help you cope. Don't worry you'll survive.




6. Cervical cancer
I'm sure you were expecting cancer. Cancer was among the top diseases to watch out for in 2016. For women it's not just cancer, it's which type? 

Cervical is the fourth most common cancer on earth. It is responsible for most in the cancer cases in developing nations.
This is the malignant growth of cancerous cells in the cervix. The symptoms are also silent, but later could present as pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding and painful sex. Cervical cancer is mainly caused by HPV (Human papillomarvirus). Additionally, smoking and use of oral contraceptives are likely causes. Although, cervical cancer can be effectively treated if discovered early.

In 2012 they were close to 300,000 deaths from cervical cancer, it's definitely a disease women need to watch out for in 2018.




5. Diabetes
Diabetes is more common in women than men. In recent years the number of women with diabetes has doubled compared to men. In developing countries 40 percent of women are suffering from diabetes. 

This is because the complications of diabetes in women are more difficult to diagnose and their hormones respond differently too.
Symptoms specifically associated with diabetes in women are female sexual dysfunction, vaginal thrush as well as urinary and vaginal infection. Diabetes is also common among women above 45, that are obese and have high cholesterol or blood pressure. 

Millions of women are suffering from diabetes today. If you don't want to have diabetes you should watch what you eat, exercise regularly and live a healthy lifestyle.




4. Stroke
Women suffer from stroke more than men, and also the number of women that suffer from stroke has been increasing.
Stroke is a condition that occurs when blood flow to a particular area of the brain is cut off. It happens suddenly. What are the risk factors? some of the risk factors are: 

• People who use illicit drugs and smoke.
• High blood pressure and stressful jobs
• People above 50 and
• Hereditary history with stroke.

Symptoms include confusion, numbness, headaches and dizziness. If you experience any stroke symptom, don't hesitate to call for help. Keeping fit and living healthy also helps.




3. Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the second most common cause of cancer among women. Lung cancer accounts for approximately 13 percent of cancer deaths in women. It is due to growth and tumor in the lungs. The main cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoking and tobacco use. It also affects non smokers that inhale the smoke.

The symptoms of lung cancer varies depending on the spread of the cancer, common ones include, pain, weight loss and fatigue.

They are about 250,000 cases of lung cancer each year. Quitting smoking now is the best action to take if you are to prevent lung cancer.

2. Heart Disease
Heart disease is any disease that affects the heart. In America 25 percent of the women die from heart diseases. That number is expected to rise, but I hope it doesn't. In the UK 1 in 6 women die from Heart disease.
Women suffer from heart diseases because their symptoms can easily go unnoticed.
According to the American Heart Association the common risk factors are, high blood pressure, obesity, increase in age, smoking and lack of exercise.
Fortunately, you can prevent yourself from getting a heart disease by living a healthy life, quitting smoking and exercising.



1. Breast cancer
Yes, at the top is breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the most popular disease among women. It represents 16 percent of all cancer deaths in women. The chances of getting cancers are based on the following factors, which are just some,
• Obesity
• Alcohol intake
• Family history and
• Increased age.

Breast cancer records over a million cases worldwide and close to half are  later deaths.

The important things are early detection, and treatment.
