I QUIT by Maiyaki Abubakar

With a daily and monthly stress..
Yet no befitting dress..
Despite various moves to impress,
I get peanuts for my sweat.

Year in,year out,I hustle.
Yet,I have no shoes.
And sometimes I wonder..
Maybe some people are destined paupers.
And others are blessed to prosper.
Then could I have chosen to suffer?

Can i say life is really fair ?
When the noble ones live in fear.
When a street beggar is condemned..
When innocent kids live in despair.
But thieves select their wears.

My society sees nothing good in me..
I became an element of mockery..
Forsaken by friends and family.
Am afraid,I might die shamefully.

Wife gone,children scattered..
No good food,no shelter..
Skin peels,hair tattered..
All hopes burnt,all dreams shattered.
Mention success, then am flattered.

If kidnapping was an option?
I will remember Evans in his condition.
Should I decide to steal?
I will remember Anini in his days.
How about being a terrorist for money?
Echoes about the fall of Osama bin laden.
Can I give my soul to the devil?
The world will remember me for my evils.

In between my woe and goal,
Dilemmas taking decimals.
Hunger staring at anger.
Options with hazardous cautions.
Death lingers in my breathe.
Wealth painted in hot sweat.
This is dough lying beside doom!
Am afraid;
I just have to quit.
