DANGER OF LENDING OUT PHONES AND LAPTOPS

The act of borrowing phones and laptops is very rampant among students in Nigeria and some other parts of the world especially when they need it for assignments and projects although some just borrow it for fun, maybe to watch movies, access the internet or play video games.

Helping people with what they lack is an act that promotes love in the society but have you ever imaging how much havoc it may wreak on your own personal life. Wondering how?

Most people keep their personal data that are confidential on their laptops, yet they still lend it out to people in need of it without given it any form of internal security. No one can be trusted when it comes to your bio data, they might be ready to use it against you which you may not be aware of.

Most people keep their email, facebook, twitter and other social media accounts logged in automatically on their laptops without requesting for their passwords. There is nothing bad in that since the PC is yours and you may want to use it at anytime, but giving out your gadgets without securing your social media accounts is very dangerous: Your social media accounts can be easily hacked and can be used for receiving and delivering information that are against your wishes and personality.

Most people complain that they find some links of which they did not apply for on their email inbox. Those links may include those from x-rated sites and ponzi scheme sites. some may even register your email address for unlawful online transactions without your awareness, and it can automatically land you in jail if caught.

Some people even use your laptops or phone to watch pornographic videos on the internet and leaves the address on the history page without deleting them. The may affect your reputation especially when you have been held in high esteem in religious and moral aspect. More than watching online, some even download them and leave them on your PC without your knowledge. Imagine what shame that will bring upon you if someone else sees those bad items on your PC.

Lending out memory cards and flash drives that bear important files can as well be dangerous. I once stayed overnight to download some important files for my profession and i kept those files on my flash drive, imagine how much data that costs. A hostel mate came to borrow my flash drive and he had deleted almost all my files when he returned it, I was not even aware until the next time needed the files. what a loss?

The act of borrowing people's gadgets can also affect you as a borrower; never leave you biodata undeleted on people's PC. Also endeavor to log out any of your social network account that you have opened on other people's computers or beeter still, use incognito mode

The solution to all these problems is not to stop helping people with your gadgets but to give full monitoring when they are using your gadgets, you can insist they use it where you are or create a new user for outsiders which will not give them access to your own files.
